January 2026 has this weird vibe in Black Ops 7. You queue up for a warm-up match and someone's flexing that Shower camo like it's no big deal, and you're sat there thinking, yeah, I remember exactly how "no big deal" that was. I'd been watching guides, tweaking routes, even poking around talk of a BO7 Bot Lobby just because the grind after events feels endless, but I still wanted to win the camo the proper way. The Astra Malorum event didn't ask for perfection on paper, it asked for the top five in your bracket after the main Easter egg, and that tiny sentence was basically a warning label.
What the bracket really felt likeThe whole thing ended on December 9, right alongside Season 1 Reloaded, and it left that lingering FOMO that doesn't go away when you close the game. The bracket system was meant to be "skill-based," but it played out more like luck dressed up as fairness. You'd see one group where first place was miles ahead, then hear a mate say they won theirs with half the score. It messes with your head because you're not just fighting zombies—you're fighting whatever matchmaking math decided you deserved that week.
My run, my plan, and the part that hurtI went in with a simple routine and stuck to it. First, I ran the Easter egg steps solo to keep health scaling lower. Second, I leaned on an XM325 for clearing crowds and a Ray Gun variant for anything chunky that refused to die. Third, once the quest was done, I farmed rounds in the courtyard and used Doppelghast conversions whenever I could to juice the multiplier. I hit 58k on my best run and parked in fourth with about two hours left. Then I made the dumbest mistake possible: I left to grab dinner. Came back, refreshed the board, and I'd dropped to seventh behind someone at 62k. That was it. Shower gone.
Back to the "normal" grindAfter that, the regular camo chase feels slow in a different way. Gold and Nebula in Zombies aren't hard, they're just demanding—headshots, elites, weapon-specific quirks, and teammates who accidentally steal the last hit you needed. You quickly notice why people stop playing public lobbies for progress. Folks talk about controlled matches and bot-filled setups so they can focus on clean kill counts and stop wasting an evening to random chaos. I get it more than I want to admit.
What I want from the next eventI'm not saying BO7 is in a bad place. The gameplay's solid, and Zombies can still hook you for hours. But that bracket format needs a rethink, because losing an animated cosmetic by a couple thousand points after days of practice feels rough. If Treyarch won't rerun Shower, at least give players clearer goals or better brackets, and for anyone who'd rather spend time playing new builds than sweating leaderboards, services like RSVSR make sense for picking up game currency or items and keeping your loadouts feeling fresh without living in the grind.
